Please Advise

Please Advise.

We all have an unconscious habit of writing the phrase, “Please Advise” in the e-mail communication, which is the most common phrase. It affects the way of a clear & efficient message.

Few of the users use this phrase in their opening and closing sentences. Examples,

  • Please advise on how to proceed.
  • If you have any questions or clarification, please advise.

For above examples, below are the revised sentences,

  • Please inform us the process to follow.
  • If you have any questions or clarifications, please let us know.

Some users use advise in place to inform or tell. Others use advise only in situations that involve advising. Like in the doctors advise on supplements and my advise on eliminating the angry tone.

Its time to break those old, unconscious habits.

Coming back to the word, ‘Please’ is often used as ‘the magic word’. It is important to say ‘please’, which is a psychological effect on the reader.

Example,

  • “Send me that file”. – It is like demand & not as a request.
  • “Could you please send me the file, that was discussed? I will be required before tomorrow’s meeting”. – It looks like a request.

Saying “Please” is an important word important to let the other person know that you are not taking them ‘for granted’. (Do not use the word ‘Kindly’.) Here, you have made your request and not a demand. You will almost never be denied the request.
